As the 2024 presidential race comes to an end, several business organizations and trade groups have committed to supporting a safe and secure election process.

The Business Roundtable and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce have both released statements calling on Americans to remain patient and peaceful throughout the process as many expect that the final ballot counts will not be available for days or even weeks after Election Day.

An Oct. 22 statement from the Chamber celebrated that this election will likely have record or near-record turnout for voting. 

“Even as many Americans are passionately and deeply divided about the candidates and their policies, we remain a nation that resolves our differences peacefully at the ballot box,” the Chamber said.

“At the same time, the likely closeness of this election and the variety of voting and vote-counting procedures mean we may not know the outcome as quickly as we would like. That’s cause for preparation and patience – but not concern. We are fortunate to have dedicated local professionals throughout our communities administering our elections.”

Business Roundtable CEO Joshua Bolten Oct. 15 called on Americans to “respect the processes set out in federal and state laws for electoral determinations and an orderly transition.”

Additionally, 20 associations and interest groups signed a letter urging other business leaders to take a stand and advocate for fair elections. The letter calls on leaders to support voter education and civic engagement, denounce threats of political violence, and acknowledge the legitimacy of the outcomes after the results have been certified.

This is not the first time that associations have taken a stance against political violence and fraud during election cycles. The Chamber and other groups issued statements in November 2020, after President Joe Biden was elected.
