The New York City-based MPA-The Association for Magazine Media has named Mary Berner president and CEO, effective Sept. 17. Berner She replaces Nina Link, who is leaving to re-establish her consulting business. Berner was president and CEO of the Reader’s Digest Association from 2007 to 2011. She helped the struggling company expand its digital and print offerings and led it through a prearranged bankruptcy, but was replaced by the company’s chief financial officer after a group of hedge funds effectively took over the business, according to the investment magazine The Deal.
