AARP’s chief executive William Novelli says he will stay on the job for another year, but plans to retire from the organization in January 2010. In 2006, Novelli signed a new three-year contract with AARP that would have extended his job through 2009. The additional year will give his organization time to adjust to new leadership in the White House and a new legislative agenda. His impending retirement triggers the group’s transition plan, which has been in development for the last six months.
