Jack O'Connell, former president of the Sugar Association, died Jan. 9 at the Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, Va. O'Connell, 84, had complications from cancer. O'Connell had been the group's leader from 1982 until his retirement in 1987. He started his association career in Washington, D.C., in 1973 as a communications officer. Previously, he had worked in public relations and corporate communications in New York City.
