CompTIA CEO fuels growth by staying focused on core business

Longtime CEO Thibodeaux always hunting for new opportunities to support industry

Oct. 25, 2019

CompTIA CEO Todd Thibodeaux is part association leader, part entrepreneur.

Despite a membership of 2,500 big and small technology companies, the Computing Technology Industry Association makes nearly all of its substantial and fast-growing revenue from individual training and certification.

And Thibodeaux wants more—much more. He’d like to triple revenue from the $40 million range he inherited in 2008. Part of his strategy: Acquisitions. He has made six of them in the past 12 years and—you guessed it—has plans for more.

But he has tightly wound nondues income around CompTIA’s core mission: Supplying an industry at full employment with qualified workers, going so far as trying to convince skeptical students and workers that they can enter the field without a degree or a penchant for mathematics.
