Executive recruiting is a people business, and that’s what keeps Jackie Arends engaged after 10 years.

Arends, a partner in the Washington, D.C., office of Spencer Stuart, has been putting people in the right places for much of her career, all the way back to her days in personnel in the administrations of George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush. She also worked in the Defense Department in both administrations.

She was herself recruited to help open the firm’s Washington office in 2003, but private-sector search was new to her.
