Balakgie embarks on industry ‘hearts and minds’ campaign

Vending group leader is engaging members in advocacy, research and thought leadership to position them for long-term success

When Carla Balakgie learned about the CEO opening at the National Automatic Merchandising Association, she saw an organization at an inflection point in its development. Her predecessors at the group, which represents the vending and refreshment services industry, had each been there for 25 years. As head of the Electronic Transactions Association, she faced sweeping changes in the electronic payments landscape stemming from emerging technologies, and recognized the influence those changes would have on vending.
