Tennessee LGBTQ laws complicate groups’ Nashville plans

NRPA won’t hold future events in state with ‘discriminatory legislation in place;’ AAHPM aims to make a positive impact with its meeting

Some associations holding events in Nashville are grappling with how best to respond to new Tennessee laws targeting transgender individuals while also supporting the LGBTQ community in the state.

The National Recreation and Park Association went ahead with its meeting Sept. 21-23 in Nashville but sent a letter to the state’s top elected officials condemning the recently passed laws. NRPA said it would not hold future meetings in Tennessee with “discriminatory legislation in place.”
