Credibility is key, whether a certifying body is incorporated as a stand-alone entity or embedded within an association. Many groups seek accreditation from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) or the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), or a more specialized accrediting organization.

“A well-run program needs to have that third-party review,” regardless of the governance model, said Kevin Keller, CEO of the CFP Board of Standards.
