The $26 million-revenue Produce Marketing Association and the $10 million-revenue United Fresh Produce Association have agreed to merge, the two groups announced March 31.

They plan to operate independently through this year, pending the launch of a combined association Jan. 1, 2022, which will be jointly run by PMA CEO Cathy Burns and United Fresh CEO Tom Stenzel. Beginning in 2023, Burns will lead the association.

Little was se<>t in stone at the time of the announcement. Both groups will spend the coming months developing a new brand and staff structure, although they currently plan to retain PMA’s offices in Newark, Del., and United Fresh’s offices in Washington, D.C. The merged organization will also produce a single trade show instead of running separate events, as they do now.
