Outgoing CEO of API takes Mormon church post

April 13, 2018

Jack Gerard, outgoing CEO of the American Petroleum Institute, was named a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on March 31.

The General Authority Seventies are among the highest-ranking officials in the Mormon church, below the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and, at the very top, the First Presidency. Gerard has held several previous leadership roles with the church.

Gerard announced earlier this year he would leave API in August. The oil and gas association is currently searching for his successor.
