Just as architects can certify their buildings are “green” or farmers their food is organic, convention centers and other event venues may soon be able to demonstrate they have taken the appropriate steps to ensure visitor safety at their meetings and shows.
The Exhibitions and Meetings Safety and Security Initiative is finalizing a set of protocols that will form the basis of a safety certification program for trade shows, conferences and other events. The group plans to submit the proposal to the Office of SAFETY Act Implementation in the Department of Homeland Security in coming weeks for approval.
