Young congressional staffers and interns lined up a dozen deep to try out the latest in vending machines, enjoying the interactive touch screens, rotating product images—and a choice of free snacks. The hands-on demonstrations and reception July 22 capped off the National Automatic Merchandising Association’s first industry-wide fly-in.

About 200 people from 35 states and D.C. participated in 186 Hill meetings, far exceeding early expectations. More than 50 member companies and industry partners contributed money or in-kind donations.
