Generous benefits, creative perks help groups tap top talent

CEO Update asked executives to name most-valued benefits by current staff, potential hires; more staffers seeking flexibility

Health insurance is a highly valued benefit at the American Bankers Association, but that’s not what job candidates ask about.

Instead, a top question for people going through ABA’s talent acquisition process, according to Chief Human Resources Officer Alethia Baggett, is this: “Do you allow telework?”

ABA launched a new flexible work arrangement policy Jan. 1, offering three options—including teleworking one day a week—for every staffer in a job-eligible role. The trade group has 350 employees.

“It’s really around attracting the right talent. It is definitely something that is a competitive edge,” Baggett said. “It also helps us position ABA for its future workforce.”

About half of the respondents to CEO Update’s December survey on perks and benefits—CEOs, human resource leaders and other senior executives—named their group’s health insurance plan as the most valued benefit, for both current employees and job candidates.
