The National Automobile Dealers Association has reached within its own ranks to select its next CEO. The group announced Oct. 21 that it will promote EVP and COO Mike Stanton to the top spot following the retirement of current chief executive Peter Welch at year end.

Stanton began his second stint with Tysons, Va.-based NADA in 2018. He previously was vice president and COO of the NADA Used Car Guide before the guide was sold to analytics firm J.D. Power in 2015. Stanton left NADA to work for J.D. Power, then returned to NADA two years ago. He oversees NADA’s dealership operations, membership, information technology, human resources, economics and data analytics and affinity programs.
