It’s important to put the energy into understanding who is serving on the search committee and what interest areas they represent. Is it comprised of all past leaders, or is it a mix of present, past and future leaders who represent a variety of interest areas? Who is missing from the search committee? If there is a search firm involved, ask them about the committee and their understanding of the priority interests and potential pitfalls. If a candidate knows those interests upfront, it’s easier to engage with the committee.
