When Nabil El-Ghoroury joined ASAE’s Diversity Executive Leadership Program in 2016, his goal was to lead an association by the time he finished the two-year program. But he lacked the contacts he needed.

DELP Manager Marilu Morada fixed that. She introduced him to association executives, matched him with a CEO mentor and encouraged him to sit with new people at events.

“I took that to heart, and I always sat at the front of the room,” El-Ghoroury said. “A couple times, I found myself with several (ASAE) board members at my table.”

El-Ghoroury achieved his goal when he was named executive director of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists in 2018.

Morada, nicknamed “MamaLu,” retired March 31 after more than 26 years at ASAE to allow someone younger to lead, she told CEO Update. Ashley Roberts, who was volunteer relations manager, has been named DELP manager.
