MHI is a $16 million-revenue association based in Charlotte, N.C, that has represented the material handling and logistics industry since 1945. WERC is a $1.9 million-revenue professional organization in Oak Brook, Ill., focused on warehouse management.

The expanded association will serve MHI’s 840 member companies and WERC’s 750 professional members, the groups said in a joint statement. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“The acquisition of WERC complements our overall strategy to continue building our knowledge offering for the industry,” MHI CEO George Prest said.  “This investment represents an important strategic opportunity offering additional value for both MHI and WERC membership.”

WERC CEO Michael Mikitka will join MHI as executive vice president of the MHI Knowledge Value Center and will lead the WERC division within MHI.
