John Engler was a Republican politician for more than three decades, but as the current president of the Business Roundtable, he is playing the bipartisan card and pushing both the Obama administration and Republican Congressional leaders to strike a deal averting the fiscal cliff.
Late Thanksgiving night, with many turkey-stuffed Americans dozing in front of their TVs, Engler appeared on the Fox News program On the Record w/ Greta Van Susteren, urging political leaders to stop kicking the can down the road and formulate a plan to address the crisis.
“They’re not kicking cans—they’re kicking 55-gallon drums down the road now. It’s that bad,” Engler said. “…the president won a mandate to lead. He has to propose. And the Congress has to act, and react to those proposals.”
