Mitch Bainwol will step down as CEO of the $33 million-revenue Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers to become the top lobbyist for Ford on March 1.

“During my almost eight-year tenure, the industry has faced profound technological disruption,” Bainwol, 59, said in a statement released Feb. 18. “Yet, by forging policies that smartly facilitate stronger fuel economy and new models of mobility, Alliance members have been agents of this change.”

The group said in the statement that its 12 domestic and foreign automaker members will announce leadership plans “in the near future.”

“Alliance members thank Mitch Bainwol for his tireless work advocating for our companies and the broader interests of mobility,” the group said. “The industry is far stronger today than we were in 2011 when Mitch joined the association.”
